Styling Notes

Making the bed — For a European finish, position the bed skirt first — place it between the mattress and the bed base, allowing the velvet skirt to fall evenly to the floor on all three exposed sides of the bed. The velvet reads best when it falls straight and undisturbed — smooth it into position before placing the mattress back. Then lay the quilt cover flat on top of the mattress, smooth and centred. Position the two pillowcases at the head of the bed, smooth and plump.

The velvet surface — Velvet has a directional nap — the fabric looks different depending on the direction you stroke it and the angle of the light. When making the bed, orient the quilt cover so the nap runs in the same direction — typically from head to foot. In warm, directional light, the velvet surface will catch the light and read as genuinely luminous. Avoid cool or blue-toned lighting, which flattens the nap and reduces the warmth of the colour.

The quilted construction — The quilting pattern holds the velvet surface in place and gives the set a structured, composed quality. The stitched pattern is most visible in natural or raking light — the quilting creates a subtle, dimensional surface that reads as considered and crafted. Keep surrounding textiles simple — plain white or cream throw pillows, no competing textures. The velvet quilted surface is the statement.

Care Instructions

• Dry clean recommended — velvet is sensitive to water and agitation; home washing can crush the pile and alter the surface texture
• If machine washing: cold water (30°C max), delicate cycle, inside out — do not use bleach or fabric softener
• Do not tumble dry — hang to dry away from direct sunlight and heat sources to preserve the velvet pile and colour depth
• Do not iron directly on the velvet surface — steam on the reverse side only to restore the pile if crushed
• Brush the velvet surface gently in the direction of the nap after washing to restore the even, directional finish
